Races

 How I Got Hooked

My first race ever was the Virginia Beach Rock 'N Roll Race...If you have never done a race before, a Rock 'N Roll Race is probably a great place to start. C's family has a time share down in Virginia Beach and a few of them had run the race before so we decided to pack the car and take a little road trip down! The training was definitely hard since it was my first race, but crossing that finish line still gives me the chills..and clearly I have been hooked ever since...and now I have become even more insane as I  train for 26.2 miles. Thanks a lot Virginia Beach!

Also, as a new "racer" try to run a race in a cool place...such as the beach!! Virginia Beach Fun

Race wake up time was 4:30, hence the blurry and beautiful look I have got goin on!

My time for this race was 2:09:23. I was pretty impressed with myself for my first race...

The second race I competed in was the Broadstreet Ten Mile race. I loved this race...lots of people, lots of energy, lots of fun! I have friends who still do this one every year, it is a great spring race through the streets of Historic Philly...plus it is only 10...some people can wrap their brain around this distance as opposed to a 13.1 race.

I am starting to realize I wear the same running pants every race! I guess I have my favorites. From left is Julia Sea (check out her blog Julia Sea !)...Me, and MM..both my good friends from high school.

We love our GU! Since then I have moved onto Hammer Gel ... RR and I are liking the flavors better than GU also the consistency is a little bit different. I will post about this soon on the gear page.

We decided to do the VB race again...this time we added our friend SG to the mix!

I will admit this was my worst race yet....I did not train very well, as I was living at the shore and was more concerned with eating pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant I worked at, and drinking lots of "adult beverages"....sooo my running priorities were not as they should have been. OH well...I have no regrets on that one:)

One of the best expos...obviously RR and I are having a blast, and being the coolest people around! (You are jealous, I know it)

As always, Run Happy. I have been trying to develop a love, love relationship with running...some days running and I are NOT friends...but truly, do what makes you happy. Running makes me happy. I refuse to allow myself to blame "running" for a grumpy or bad mood. No one forced me to sign up for a marathon, I chose to do it for a reason (still trying to figure out the reason some days!).

Of course we need a finish line pic...the best part about the Rock 'N Roll races is that they always have concerts and tons of "rock 'n roll" music along the way to keep you running! Makes for a great after party, especially when your room overlooks the beach and concert at night time. Good times. (even though my actual time wasn't!)

I am very sorry but I do not have any pics for this one! Reason being is because I ran this race with my ex-boyfriend....and I think in my fit of rage after breaking up with him I deleted all the pics of us together (every girl does this, can you blame me??). Anyways...this race was my PR until  recently (I will get to that later on). I trained really well for this one and felt great on race day. Plus I beat my ex by 20 minutes:) He did not take his training seriously, and to be honest I couldn't wait to beat his lazy butt during the race...I guess that should have been a sign that maybeeee he wasn't the one for me??? It was part of my life, and a damn good race so I can't leave it out! Maybe I can dig up some pics and crop him out....

My split for about 8 miles: 1:09:15

This was by far one of my favorite races. I had been in the process of training for a half, then RR asked me if I would fill in for C to run the half relay in Frederick (where I now live!!)...and I was down for this...number 1. I knew RR and I would have a blast and 2. I am all about a shorter distance run...come on who would turn down an 8mile run versus a 13.1 !! RR and I have already decided this is a MUST tradition for us. We were also pumped because we got 6th overall, which we thought was pretty awesome! Go us.

"Men Sweat, Women Sparkle"

RR and I know the truth, WE sweat... A lot:) (but also sparkle, duh!)

I decided to do a "half-way-half" marathon...RR and I are about half way to our marathon so I did a 13.1 and it was by far my best race yet. I felt amazing from mile 1, about mile 12 I started to teeter off and loose a little bit of speed...but my overall pace was 8:51 which was really good for me! It was a total confidence boost that the marathon training IS working...plus I had just done a 15 mile long run the past weekend, so I knew I could handle a 13.1.

They also had a petting zoo at the finish where they held a festival. Those lama's really look excited for me and my PR.

The best part about this race was not only the incredible views but also the delicious New England Clam Chowder they give you at the finish...I was a little suspicious about eating a cup of this stuff at 9:30 am after just running a half marathon, but it sure hit the spot.

The race took place in beautiful Westerly, Rhode Island. I got to visit my sister and brother in law  in Newport (by far one of my favorite places). Again, it is always a great idea to do a race somewhere beautiful! Also, very nice to do a race where you have people to cheer you on, and feed you! My sister knows how important both are to me and it was so sweet of her and bro to drive me back and forth to pick up my "swag bag" and then to come cheer me on right when I needed it. This was also the first race I did alone, and although I was a little lonely walking around before the start, it was very empowering.

Planned Races....stay tuned:)
